Sexting Facts
- 17% of teens 13-18 years old send sexts
- 20% of teens ages 13-19 years old have posted or sent a nude or semi-nude image of themselves
- 30% of 17-year olds have reported receiving sexually suggestive nude or nearly nude images
- 20% of 16 year olds have reported the same
- 65% of teens have been asked to engage in sexual acts via e-mail/texts/cell phones that they didn’t want to engage in.
- 25% of teen girls and 33% of teen boys have had nude or semi-nude photos shared with them, although they were intended for someone else
Sexual Violence
- Over half of women and almost one in three men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes.
- One in four women and about one in 26 men have experienced completed or attempted rape.
- One in three women and about one in nine men experienced sexual harassment in a public place.
- More than four in five female rape survivors reported that they were first raped before age 25 and almost half were first raped as a minor (i.e., before age 18).
- Nearly eight in 10 male rape survivors reported they were made to penetrate someone before age 25 and about four in 10 were first made to penetrate as a minor.
- In eight out of 10 cases of rape, the victim knew the person who sexually assaulted them
- One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old
